Why the bloodshed?

Why is there so much innocent bloodshed in one week?

Yesterday, a geology class at Northern Illinois University turned into a bloodbath as an alumna stormed the class with a shotgun and two handguns, killed five, wounded 16, then shot himself. (Scratch that, MSNBC now reports 7 are dead.)

Why do gunmen have a habit of killing themselves? Are they that ashamed?

Similar school attacks occured on Feb. 12 at both E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard, Calif. and McNair High School in Atlanta, Feb. 11 at Mitchell High School in Memphis, Tenn., Feb. 8 at Louisiana Technical College, and Feb. 7 at Notre Dame Elementary School in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Mr. Auld, a blogger from Sydney, Australia, compiles a list of U.S. school shootings in recent history and wonders what it would take to cut down on the killings.

Easy answer, Mr. Auld: Short of rewriting the Constitution, it won’t happen.

The same day as that Ohio school shooting was when a resident of Kirkwood, Missouri, who owed back pay to the city and apparently engaged in back-and-forth banter with city officials, took matters in his own hands and turned a city council meeting into another bloodbath, killing two cops and three other meeting attendees.

And let’s not forget the first day of February when a North African splinter cell of al Qaeda assaulted the Israeli embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania. This week, Reuters suggests the cell is moving south, after hitting Morocco and Algiers in recent years.

Munaeem, who appears to be an American Muslim from his blog, ponders if Arab Muslims can establish friendly relations with India which is a hindu state, why can’t they establish friendly relations with Israel.

Good question, Munaeem.
