Blogging ideas

Staring at my video collection across the room, I see an assortment of DVD and VHS titles: classics like Casablanca, Spartacus, and 2001: A Space Odyssey; comedies like Office Space, The Full Monty, Haiku Tunnel, and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles; action flicks like The Rock, Air Force One, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and Shogun Wedding; dramas such as Swimming Pool, Moulin Rouge, My Left Foot, and Freejack; Star Trek: The Motion Picture and its 9 sequels.

The list goes on...

Like my affection for a plethora of different film titles and genres, I similarly have a varied reading list incorporating spy thrillers, mysteries, poetry collections, and management case studies.

Music? Try my taste in rock, folk, electronica.

Shortly after creating this blog in May 2007, I wrote of the importance of branding the name of the blog with me and my likes, with plans to focus this web log or electronic diary, with travel tales and reflections on current events.

Shortly after moving to Newburyport, I created a second blog in January 2008 to serve as a means of local thoughts and reflections. I feel that blog is off to a good start, with 50 posts in three months. It's still a novelty to me, which is why I post there frequently.

But this blog, my personal blog, is suffering with 150 posts in nearly a year. Moreover, I lost direction on this blog: do I write about travel, or music, or film, or my own personal thoughts?

There's nothing wrong with a general blog, but as Dosh Dosh suggests, niche blogging is one way to separate out my interests and have separate blogs.

The idea has a lot of merit.

For starters, I'd create a blog to focus my nouveau passions on energy, the environment, and sustainable development. Perhaps another blog to reflect on current events in culture and A&E. Maybe a third new blog with a Jewish theme.
